How long are you willing to spend on Grooming your Dog?

Although it has become somewhat of a fad, not too many people are willing to fork over that kind of money to have their dog groomed by professional dog groomers.

It really depends on how far you’re willing to go in the matter of grooming your dog.

Some people take their dog to a professional groomer's once a year, some people once a month, others once a week, and yet others still more frequently, up to at least once a day.

As I said, this all depends on how far you’re willing to go for the sake of your dog. Then again, a professional dog grooming service isn’t really all that necessary if you can do the job yourself and on a regular basis.

This is also a good time for you to bond even more with your dog. If you go about it the right way, you’ll find that your dog is looking forward to having a good grooming.

This question comes into play in the choosing of your dog however, not for any other reason, than because if you don’t really have that much time to spare on the grooming necessities for you dog, you will have to look for a low maintenance dog where grooming isn’t a top priority.

You should be able to get away with brushing your dog’s coat about once a week for the really low-maintenance-grooming dogs. Your other choice is of course to use a professional grooming service if you have your heart set on a high-maintenance-grooming dog.

Whatever you decide though, you will need to do some grooming for your dog regardless of whether you do it, or you get someone else to do it for you. Grooming is an essential part of a dog’s routine, and this includes bathing, cleaning their mouth, and trimming their toenails as well.

Neglecting your dog’s grooming needs is something akin to if you went a whole week or two without bathing, brushing your teeth or brushing your hair.

It might look hip and cool for a few days in a grunge sort of way, but you can be assured that after that people will start avoiding you like you carry the plague, which you might very well be doing under all that dirt!

I can’ tell you exactly how much time you need to spend for a day or a week on grooming your dog because each dog’s requirements are different. You will need to check up on these individually for each dog breed.

What I can tell you though, is that you need to groom your dog, and you need to spend enough time on the task that you actually manage to bathe him and thoroughly brush through your dog’s coat.

This will also help in the shedding-of-fur department and will keep the swirling fur-balls on your floors, down to a minimum.
