My 2 yr old Alaskan Malamute had a stroke and now through care he seems to have a loss of recognition of me? My 2 year old Alaskan Malamute, the picture of health, had a sudden, and what the neurologist believe to be, suffered from a "stroke of the spine." The MRI showed nothing tremendously remarkable but he has lost the feeling in his hind quarters and they are hopeful he will gradually regain the use of his rear leg. He has been in the hospital now for 7 days and although there is a slight sign of improvement, he is obviously depressed and traumatized.
The first couple days of my visit to the hospital brought joy and elation to him but progressively, it seems he almost has a loss of recognition of me. We are each others best friend but the sense of recognition scares me. I am attributing it to trauma, depression and his lust for life temporarily depleted due to this horrible event but my fear is; Will he eventually gain full recognition of me or is this just the result of such a traumatic experience for him that it is overwhelming his sense of "me?" |
