Default Do chinchillas NEED a companion?

In petco, they are 140 bucks, and I don't feel like getting 2 since one is already so expensive, and I only got $250. (I'm 14)

So would a guinea pig be a good companion, or rabbit?

I know that chinchillas are nocturnal so not sure if it will work...
actually, the $140 might of been the ferret lol

anyone know how much they are?

Of course!

Mammals, especially, are social creatues.

I think every creature needs a companion of its own species to thrive.

A chinchilla would not get along with a guinea pig or rabbit, they would probably fight either of them. You should look in the paper, you can probably find them cheaper. I use to breed them and can tell you that it will probably cost you more than $250 to get a chinchilla started right. Chinchilla's are great pets but they can live up to 15 years and take a lot of time, whether playing with them or cleaning their cages, and they require dust baths and the food is more expensive than a guinea pig or rabbit. They also require a cage with steps and layers so they can jump around and play, these cages will probably cost you $100 - $150 at Petco. I would probably recommend choosing another pet, such as a guinea pig, rabbit or even a ferret.
