Do Chinchillas make good pets?

 Do Chinchillas make good pets? My friend has a chinchilla but i really want one after holding it and how fuzzy it is. I was wondering if they are expensive, Hard to care for, good with kids up to 12 years, anything you can think of so please help me your answers depend on my parents decision.      |
