does anyone have a chinchilla?

 does anyone have a chinchilla? I've had mine for about 10 months. & ever since I got him, he never likes to be held, and runs away before I can pick him up. I try and pet him sometimes, and most of the time he runs away. Sometimes he'll let me pet him, but for a short amount of time. I'm not doing anything wrong, and I just want to know if somethings wrong with my chinchilla. My mom said when she had hers that she could hold it. & others I've known said their chinchilla's let them hold em'. Thanks for any advice. :]      |
