Default Cockatoo or African Grey for a pet?

Has anyone owned both? The cockatoo I am thinking of adopting is a bare eyed cockatoo. I met him and he is very sweet! May have some health issues though. I have not met the grey. I have not owned a bird, just taken care of them in high school. I am at a toss up and want to make the right choice although I have somewhat already fallen for the cockatoo after meeting him. Any advice? Thanks!

I think an african grey would be cool to have. I have one named Emma and shes really fun. She plays, and talks all the time to me, like when i go outside she says "wazzzzz up lilyyyy" hahaha and then i'll say something back and she either says "WHAT?!'' or "Mannn just shut up"

Its hilarous. There not dirty. Very beautiful. Smartest bird in the world (not even kidding, look it up) Really nice, and real funny.

=)

Good luck, and hope you make the right choice!

Generally speaking, Greys are quieter, less demanding and less of a biter than Cockatoos. Cockatoos are very demanding. They want to be scratched and petted 24/7 and sometimes go nuts just because you are not in the room. They are one of the louder birds. You can hear them squawk from a very long distance. They also put out a lot more dander than Greys. Cockatoos are also very cuddly and love to be held. Greys are happier hanging out around you but not necessarily being on you. Both parrots need a lot of socialization and interaction. Just remember that whichever parrot you choose, they are not a hobby. They are a way of life. They are like having a 2 year old child for many, many years.
