Giving my dog 2 mg of Xanax (Alprazolam)?

I have a 2 year old, 100 pound German Shepherd Dog, that needs to see the vet tomorrow for a titer (pre-vaccination blood test). He is a neutered male who is a sweet, wonderful dog. However, at the vet, he gets very agitated! He can't be muzzled tomorrow because he has a small lump under his chin that I want looked at; so the vet has given me a 2 mg dosage of Alprazolam to give him.

My question is this: Has anyone given their dog that high of a dosage before? I trust my vet, but I would like to know what other people have done. When it comes to my dog... well, he's one of the most important things in my life, second only to my human family.

I know some vets like to over vaccinate, and sometimes do things I don't want done to my dog. So, any opinions are most welcome.
