Default My dog won't stop barking!?

At first I just kept feeding him to shut him up, but that doesn't work anymore. I tried hitting him with a broom handle, and now he's really aggressive, even more than before. He's only 9 months old, so I don't want to put him to sleep. Are golden retrievers usually this bad?

My dog is a terrible barking offender.. In fact she's outside barking right now! I have a NO-BARK collar for her.. It runs on a 9Volt battery and gives her a "shock" or reminder that she shouldn't be barking in excess! I just have to find a 9v battery and put her collar on... It keeps her from going all wild at everything outside.... It's NOT the best idea to give the dog a "treat" for excessive barking.. Often times instead of the collar I bring her in and put her in her crate for awhile... She knows she's NOT suppossed to bark... I'm going to get her right NOW...

Good luck

NO, they are wonderful dogs, you are a terrible owner. Give him away to a nice owner who will be gentle, patient, and give him excersize. They are working dogs they need excersize not to be hit with a brrom. You are horrible!

hitting a dog with a broom is not the right way to train a dog not to bark. my mom has a pomeranian (i know it's not a golden retriever but they are bad barkers as well). one thing we did to train her not to bark, was to compromise. we trained her to whisper. instead of barking her lungs out she will do like a growl/subdued bark. we also got a muzzle and whenever she started barking we would get it and put it on her. now we don't even have to put it on her, we will warn her by saying muzzle, and then if that doesn't work we will go and get and the sight of it will shut her up. what you really need to do is be dominant over him. be forceful but not mean. reprimand him quickly when ever he starts to bark and be consistent with the punishment.
