| I have had him 2 weeks today, and one day last week, I caught him going pee on my carpet when I walked in the room, so like my book recomends, I said "NO" and went to take him outside to finish, and he ran from me, and my 85 pound dog tried to make himself as small as possible and peed all over the place. even when I got down on the floor and tried to pet him and love him, he was so scared he peed everywhere. I have been having a problem with him jumping up on my bed, and he did it yesterday, and I walked in the room, and in a normal voice said "what are you doin up there" (I talk to him like a person) and started to try to coax him down, he stood up and started peeing all over my bed, so, I ignored it, cuz I didnt want to make it worse, but he did it again 2 hours later and all I did was walk in the room!! I have never even scolded this dog more than the "NO" when he peed on the floor, and I want to help this awesome dog. he is perfect in every other way! someone PLEASE help me! |

| I adopted a Dingo/Kelpie at 6 months old with the same problem. Good on you for wanting to help him. It will be worth it. But be prepared for a very long road ahead. Firstly, you need to focus on making him feel safe and confortable in his home. I understand that peeing inside is a definate no-no, but for now, you may need to hold off on toilet training him. If you can, try to limit his access to your room and area where if you enter, he may feel cornered, such as a bed room. He is wetting himself as the ultimate sign of submission to you. This is not from something you have done, more likely something someone else has done. Once you build his trust in you, this will take a LONG time, the rest will follow. I've had my boy for 2 years now and he is still coming ahead in leaps and bounds. Every week he does something else new that he's never felt safe to do before. He now brings me the ball to throw. He also feels comfortable enough to walk up to visitors and sit beside them for a pat. Kids are still a bit much, but we ask parents to not let their kids chase him. Try also asking visitors to completely ignore him for a few months. If he wants their attention, he'll ask for it. Email me if you need more advice. Good luck! |
