I already own a rottweiler and I would use her rather than an alarm system any day! It's just an opinion question so dont get mad over it...
and my rottweiler wasnt put out to protect, she just become so loyal and faithful that she is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her home and family..

Rottweiler.

Not because they're better guard dogs, but because their looks tend to be black-black face-hard to read angry face. Psychology papers have shown that people are more afraid of and more likely to avoid a black dog over other colors of dogs.

However, I would use a lock and alarms as my actual guarding mechanism. Dogs are good for a deterrent, not as an actual guarding. They shouldn't be put on the front lines like that. It's our duty to protect them. I can see having one for looks that would make people walk on, but make sure the dog is extremely friendly (dogs who are really aggressive have stressful, unhappy, and shorter lives...)

Basically, if you want to protect your house, then get an alarm system, put an electric line on your fence, and put on new locks on every opening of your house. Don't get a dog.

Neither of them.

Pits are extremely loving and would rather escort a theif to the stereo and help them carry it out than bite and bark at them.

Rotties are far too intelligent to be considered guard dogs. While they APPEAR intimidating, they are far from it. They too are extremely sweet dogs.

If you want a guard system, get an alarm. ADT works great. Something covered in fur- no.

Neither. The best one is a golden retriever. Let me tell you a story in my home town, korea. Once in Winter, a man was drunk with his retriever. He didn't have a jacket and it was freezing. He fainted. The dog went on top of the man to keep him warm. After he woke up, he was okay. But the died. That golden retriever sacrificed his life for that man. Golden retrievers can be your pal.

Pit Bulls were bred to fight other dogs and not humans. Most Pit Bull attacks are not out of guarding Pit Bulls but mishandled and not properly owned Pit Bulls.

Rottweilers were bred to guard.

Golden Retrievers are probably one of the least aggressive dogs around, Cloud S. What does a dog laying on top of a freezing man have to do with the ability to be a guard dog?
