Default Do Siamese cats need a cat companion?

We are considering getting a Siamese cat and wonder if we really need to get two cats.

Not necessarily, but Siamese cats are known to be very clingy and demanding. A companion would calm them while your away, but it is best to get them together, or when they are kittens. Sometimes it is hard to get another cat if your current cat is dominate, but sometimes people have no problems, it really does depend on the cat.

Siamese are very smart and energetic cats and therefore need a lot of mental and physical stimulation. They need toys and distractions, or they are good at getting into mischief. They are best as indoor-only cats, as they lack "common sense" in spite of being very intelligent. They are easy to train, and I highly recommend training them (see clickertraining.com), as it gives them an outlet for their energy, and it forms a closer bond between cat and person. Siamese are very vocal (both frequent and LOUD), and very demanding.

If you work all day and the cat will be left alone, I would suggest getting two cats, so they can keep each other entertained. Also, I strongly suggest reading as much as you can about the breed before you get a Siamese, especially if this is your first cat. I've had cats for almost 40 years, and I still wasn't prepared for living with a Siamese.

I was owned by the most amazing Siamese for eleven years. And I wouldn't have traded the experience for the world.

Not really, they're "people cats",...more dog than cat sometimes!
Had many, my faves,...very vocal though! They talk and talk and talk, not to demand attention, but to chatter conversation!
No lie.
I've had Sealpoints, Lilacpoints, Bluepoints and Chocolatepoints,.. living in age from 19, 21, 23, 24 yrs. old respectively. Siamese are very intelligent kitties are are fine without cat company (would be nice to have a pair though) as long as human attention is given.

Doesn't matter either way. But if you do get two be prepaired to have them play together all night while you are trying to sleep LOL
