a muzzle really isn't the solution. he's starting to teeth and so he has and impulse to chew up stuff. the best thing you can do is get him a toy that he can chew on and tear up. when ever he starts to chew on something that's not a toy reprimand him and give him his toy. eventually he will catch on that chewing and tearing up clothes and socks is not allowed and instead he will go for his toy. when my husky was teething i had this old shoe that i gave to her. of course she completely chewed up the shoe eventually and she did create some big messes that i had to clean up, but she knew that was her shoe and that she was allowed to chew up that shoe, her other toys, and nothing else. at one point she became notorious in my house for chewing up clothes. my room was never the cleanest and i had clothes all over the floor, but whenever she came into my room she would look for her shoe and chew on that and only that. the nipping and chewing will calm down in a couple of months and i think a muzzle is pretty severe punishment. your dog is in pain from teething and chewing on stuff relieves that pain, all you have to do is teach him what is ok to chew on and what is not ok.
p.s. if you have any stuffed animals you might want to put them on the highest shelves possible. |
